Notes
a. Note:   N1271 Marriage date from Family Search web site. I am convinced by the circumstantial evidence that John and Mary Abbott are the parents of Catherine. (1) At the time of the 1850 census, Catherine had been married only about four years, and she had been married in Miami County, so it stood to reason that her parents probably still lived in the county, and indeed, I found John and Mary in Union Township. (2) The census said that John and Mary had been born in South Carolina. So I looked John up on FamilySearch and not only got his birth and death dates, but his wife’s name and some of her ancestry. (3) I also got the information that they had been married in Miami County. It turns out that they both died in Iowa. How these pioneers did move around!
