Notes
a. Note:   N2384 John Russell served in the War of 1812. In the 1820 census of Pike Township, Stark County, Ohio, John Russell and family are listed as follows: 1 male 10-16 (George or Thomas?); 1 male 16-26; 1 male 26-45 (John); and 1 male over 45 (possibly the father of John or Ann); 3 females 10-16; 1 female 16-26; 1 female 26-45 (Ann). I am unable to identify the other individuals. The other two males may be hired men. The younger females could be their children; the ages might have been misreported. If we move the children into the next earlier age category, which I admit is highly speculative, we would have 1 male under 10 (John); 1 male 10-16 (Thomas); 1 male 16-26 (George); 3 females under 10 (Lydia, Anne and Eleanor); 1 female 10-16 (Elizabeth). This fits the known data much better. I wonder if the census taker was one column off in recording ages. In the 1830 census (same place) we find the family again. There is a boy under 5, name not known; man 20 to 30 (Thomas); man 40-50 (John; meaning his birth date would have to be between 1780 and 1790); two girls between 15 and 20 (Lydia and Anne); and one woman 50 to 60 (Ann; meaning her birth date must be between 1770 and 1780).
