Notes
a. Note:   N1694 The date of marriage, Benjamin’s first name, and Anna’s last name, from a record found online at FamilySearch. In the 1880 census his first name was hard to make out, and looked like “Bergman” or “Bengman.” It is from this census (New Carlisle, Clark County, Bethel Township) that I got the names and ages of his wife and children. The 1880 census confirms that his father was born in England. In the 1870 census, he is listed as 35 years old, farmer, real estate $800, personal estate $300. Wife Mary (25) (apparently Anna’s middle name); Savana (4), and Charles (1). In the 1880 census of New Carlisle, Clarke County, Ohio, we find “Bengman” (43, farmer), Anna M. (33), Savana (13), Charles (11), Alma (9), Bert (3), and an unnamed daughter (5 months). His granddaughter Mary Ellis told me that there was a daughter named Edna, and one namewd Fannie who died of tuberculosis as a teenager. Benjamin’s death date from the New Carlisle Cemetery.
