Notes
a. Note:   N17 Recorded as a farmer, age 24 at the time of his marriage. German marriage records seem to be very unreliable as to the ages of the participants. If his birthdate is correct, he was 22. Barbara Lackas, his mother, was present at his wedding; his father was deceased at that time. Mathias Lackas, farmer, age 28, of Orscholz (uncle of the bride) was a witness. Jakob and Anna were second cousins. I think the entire Kiefer clan, including adult offspring, emigrated to the United States in June, 1846, via New York ultimately to Wisconsin (see “Child in Direct Line”). Jacob [sic] emigrated to New York in June of 1846 and petitioned to be naturalized 31 March 1849 in Milwaukee.
