Notes
a. Note:   N20 Listed as without profession, age 58, at the time of her son’s marriage (1845). Angela bore twins out of wedlock, named Johann and Magdalena, on 17 January 1816. Their father was Johann Ginsbach. Young Johann died 23 January 1816 at 7PM; Magdalena died 2 February 1816 at 8 PM. Sponsors at the twins’ baptism were Johann May, farmer Margarita Ginsbach, wife of Peter Dinyen Jacob Kiefer Magdalena Tinten, wife of Ludwig Ostermann of Orscholz. In the 1860 census, “Angela Easterman”, 77, born in France, was listed as living with Michael Ginsbach’s family in The town of Rubicon, County of Dodge, Wisconsin. Translation of German record supplied by Mary Jane Rice: “The 17th of January 1816…born and the same day baptized are Johann and Magdalena, natural infants (illegitimate) of Johann Ginsbach and Angela Ostermann of Orscholz. Sponsors are Johann May, farmer, and Margarita Ginsbach, wife of Peter Dinyen (Diny), and Jacob Kiefer and Magdalena Tinten, wife of Ludwig Ostermann of Orscholz.” The father signed his name (illegibly) and the others made their marks. Mary Jane’s comments: Angela an adolescent [sic] with both her parents deceased finds herself with child, the year is 1815, the place Orscholz Germany. The father one year older than she, stood by her and on 17 January 1816 twin daughter and son were born to them. Both parents, being Catholic, the infants were immediately baptised. [Note by ZCM: immediate baptism was very uncommon unless the babies were obviously sickly.] Little Johann lived only nine days, little Magdalena lived fourteen days. The couple were married the day after Magdalena’s death. The joy can be imagined one year later when their third child, a son was born to them fine and well. They raised their family in Orscholz. After Johann passed away in 1848, Angela followed her son Michael to America near Rubican Wisconsin.
