Notes
a. Note:   --------------------------- Lon Allen was a wild kid who traded to the Indians on the reservation in Oklahoma and generally raised hell. They married him off at 19 to a steady older woman Grace Miller [age 24]. She stuck to her job for 62 years but never really calmed him down. One way he got into trouble was to trail a herd of cattle to market and forget to come home with the money. That was in 1917 before my mother was born. He lit out to Canada where he homesteaded some land [Dominion Lands 377464 Agency #76276 Jessiman A. Allen Meanook, Alberta NEQ of Sec 23, TWP 64, Range 25 west of 4 Meridian] in Alberta. I don't believe he proved up on it. After my mother's birth in March of 1918, the family took the train to Seattle where he joined them. My mother's earliest memories are of the giant stumps that were her playground. After they moved to California, they mostly truck farmed and hauled loads. The second time Lon couldn't make the payments on a car and torched it, the insurance guy warned him that splashing gasoline on those wooden spokes made a very distinctive burn pattern. He used to get the kids to run around the house so he could rope them. He rodeoed and always kept a horse well past age 70. Even blind and nearly helpless at 90, he still didn't take any lip off anyone. ============== 10-27-1909 Sophia, Oklahoma ============== 1910 Census Conroy Prec, Elmwood Twp., Beaver Co., OK ED 2 p. 1150 #179 ALLEN, William L. 42 MO MO NY md 14 yrs Fannie M. 32 MO KY KY 9 ch/7 liv Lulu B. 13 OK Earl D. 12 OK Charlie E. 10 OK Dessie L. 9 OK Margrt.
