Note: My great, great, great grandfather, Zachariah Prescott came up from Florida, stopped in Franklinton, LA, came on to Marion County, MS and settled in Morgantown, Mississippi. He probably followed the Pearl River, which used to be a mode of transportation before it dried up so much. The Bogue Chitto River was also a possibility as it went from the Pearl River up to Franklinton and into Mississippi, west of the Pearl River. He had one child in Florida, and the rest of his children were born in MS. Zach went back and forth between Franklinton, LA and Marion County, MS for some unknown reason. In regards to time frames, I know from census records that Zach had his son Franklin Prescott in Florida in 1856. Then he came to Mississippi by 1857 for the birth of his son, and my great-great grandfather, John P. Prescott. He was in Mississippi for the 1860 census. Sometime after 1861, the family moved from Mississippi to Franklinton, LA (1870 census) and then back to Mississippi. The last census record I have for Zach is 1880 in Marion County, MS. Oral family histories all state the same scenario. The Prescott family came up together from Florida, with some staying in LA and others moving on to MS. I know this is true because my great-grandfather, Nelson Abner Prescott, Sr., would go often to visit his family in LA and in McComb, MS. As far as the connection to North Carolina, Zach listed his place of birth as NC in census records. Research has been done by Adell Prescott which has rational support for his being related to the Prescotts of North Carolina.
