Downey; Jack Capehart, descendant of Archibald Downey; from date of will;Grace Alberta Lisk Family Tree Maker Site; Karla Brown Archibald was a contemporary of Thomas Roberts. He was born about 1780 in Pennsylvania of Welsh extraction. He was a farmer and referred to his Kentucky land holdings as "the Plantation". He died at the relatively early age of 45, and we first find him in Nicholas County, Kentucky on a sad note. A copy of his Last Will and Testament states in part:" In the name of God Amen, I Archibald Downey being in a sickly debilitated State of health but of right and sound mind and memory and calling to mind the uncertainty of this that it is appointed for all once to die I (for the further promotion of peace and amity between those concerned and for the more easy settling and distribution that portion of good things of this world which it has pleased got to bestow upon me.) Do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in the way and manner following; Imprimis I give and bequeath unto my beloved wift Sarah all her wearing apparel with her Bed Bedstead and saddle as also unto my oldest Daughter Jenny I give unto her, her bed and furniture whereunto belonging and her Saddle and to my; wife the Cloths and furniture belonging unto her bed the above articles not to be considered as any part of my devisable property "Nicholas County SCT May Court 1815". Archibald died March 1814 In Nicholas County, Kentucky. Most all of his children and their families moved north into Indiana beginning about 1829, Jacob and John stayed in Indiana, while the others continued their westward migration north and west into southern Iowa and northern Missouri. By the early 1840's most all were living in Jefferson and Wapello counties in Iowa." Will of Archibald Downey & History of Ruch Co., IN. Welsh descent. Lived on Kentucky plantation with slaves, Reference # 48. Witnesses to will: Robert Caldwell, James Thompson, Jr. William Downey, B. 1728 in Scotland, had son Ezekial Downey, b, 21 Oct 1757, who was a surgeon in 6th Reg't. PA Inf. Rev. War.
