Notes
a. Note:   Presbyterianism was the dominant religion in northern KY in its early days. Susannah and her husband were followers of Rev. Barton Warren Stone who in 1804 broke away from the Presbyerian Church and formed a splinter group known as the "New Lights". One of Rev. Stone's closest friends was Rev William M. Caldwell (1784 - 1845), who was a first cousin of Susannah Hinton. The "New Lights" were ousted from the Presbyterian Church in a heresy proceeding. They lasted only a short time and then formed the Christian Church. When Susannah and her husband moved to Lebanon, IN they were among a dozen people who organized the Christian Church there that still exists today. Their fourth son named "Barton W." is believed to be Barton William, a name derived by using the first names of Rev. Stone and Rev. Caldwell.
