Notes
a. Note:   She was described by her granddaughter Harriet Meloney Moore as "a beautiful lady, very refined." C.P. Moore said she spoke Gaelic.
Harriet Edna Meleney records (at least third hand) Catherine's birthplace as Edinburgh; however in 1916 Harriet Meloney Moore (Catherine's granddaughter who was 20yo when Catherine died) says she was from Inverness; and finally Grace Meleney records that in 1935 C.P. Moore (great-grandson who never met her, but was interested in genealogy) said it was Strathspey, Scotland. Both record in their notes a DOB of "about 1758".
The Inscription on her gravestone in Hillcrest Cemetery South Bar, CB supports that date:
Here lieth the remains of Catherine relict of the late Samuel B. Peters of Baddeck "She honoured her profession as a disiple [sic] of Jesus For many years and sweetly fell asleep in his blessed arms" October 15, 1854 in the 96th year of her age This would make her birthdate 1758; 30 years old when she married Samuel in 1789. Based on the "love story" [see John Meloney2 marriage notes], John's age, Samuel's birthdate (1768), and their marriage date,it seems more likely that her birthdate is around 1768.
