Notes
a. Note:   In Memoriam. Mrs. Ann Meloney Widow of the late Dea. John Meloney, precious memory, was called suddenly from time into eternity, on Sabbath morning, Jan. 9th She was in the 89th year of her age, and was baptized by the Rev. Joseph Dimock, during a visit to Cape Breton, and had been for over 52 years a devoted member of the North Sydney Baptist Church. The circumstances attending her death were peculiar.
She always aimed to be present at the Sabbath services of the church. The morning of her death it stormed, and her son, John Meloney Jr., Esq. said to his mother, that he thought it was not fit for to go to church. She answered she must go while she could, and might as well die going to church as any where else. She went, seemed as smart as usual, enjoyed the service, and started for home, but had gone only a short distance when suddenly she breathed her last without a struggle or a groan. Religion had been the joy of her life, and thoughts of death had no terror to her. Her house had always been a home for God's servants. She loved all who loved the Lord, and ever manifested a deep interest in the prosperity of the cause of God. She showed a lively interest in the cause of missions, and contributed regularly to their support. She was a mother in Israel, an Israelite indeed. Through a long life of true devotion to the cause of God, she had been ripening for the better land. She was universally respected as a consistent Christian, and beloved by a large circle of relatives and friends. She was a genial companion, a true friend, a devoted Christian. Her memory will long be cherished by those who knew her. We shall miss her, but rejoice that she has entered into rest. "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord." -- J. W. B.
