Notes
a. Note:   Thomas C. WALKER (1376), born 22 Aug 1834 in Alabama, died 4 Sep 1881 in Marshall County, Alabama. Grew up in the Hebron Community and attended the local school. He married Nancy Jane SIBLEY at William A. SIBLEY's home. The ceremony was performed on December 15, 1861. The Civil War had started in April of that year. Sometime during the war Nancy J., the wife of Thomas C. WALKER, and her infant daughter Jane Thomas WALKER were living with John W. WALKER, the father of Thomas C., along with some other sisters-in-law, for protec tion while the younger men folk were off at war. The "Yan kees" came through when baby Jane T. WALKER was only three weeks old but refused to burn the Walker home down because Mrs. Thomas C. WALKER told them that the baby had just been born and she couldn't get out when they ordered everyone out so they could burn the house. Baby Jane WALKER saved the old homeplace. In a letter to his brother, Byron Bertram "Burr" WALKER, a few years after the war had ended, Thomas told "Burr" that he had lost his oldest son that year on June 12, 1869, and that the son was named Robert Sanders and was two years and nine months old when he died. So Robert Sanders WALKER was born about October 1866 and died June 12, 1869. The letter was written November 15, 1869. Robert Sanders died the year before the 1870 census.
