DEATH PLACE: Email from Nancy Olive Downs-Self Subj: Re: Isabelle Warwick Date: 04/12/2000 2:46:49 PM Pacific Daylight Time From: [email protected] (Nancy Self) To: [email protected] Hi Marshall: I noted on your website that you were looking for documentation of Isabelle Warwick's death (buried in Westville Cemetery). I have visited that Westville Cemetery as that is where Eulius and Gratia Sheldon are buried as well as my grandparents, Fred and Mary Downs. I will tell you that when I visited there (probably 4 or 5 years ago) that cemetery was under the auspices of the Hawley Lincoln Funeral Home in New Haven. The grounds did not receive much attention at that time and the records even less. I do not have the address of that funeral home but I'm sure you could find it if it is still in operation. My sister and I were distressed at that whole situation. The gentleman in charge did all he could to disuade us from going there. The lots there were supposed to have prepetual care ( whatever that means). My sister insisted on return ing to the cemetery the next day so that she could take pictures of what she considered deplorable conditions -- weeds obscuring stones, gate hanging by one hinge, etc -- We found the Funeral Man there walking about the place. He apologized and said he had engaged someone to do some mowing. All this to say if you want reocrds from that cemetery -- Good Luck I would hope it could fall under the care of the other New Haven cemeteries. The Evergreen cemetery is great and have good records. Just wanted to share with you. Nancy Self in Ohio DEATH DATE: April 2000 email from Nancy Self, in which she speaks of a large stone marker in the Westville Cemetery with names and birth and death years, of Eulius Sheldon, Gracia Sheldon, Isabella Warwick, and William Brown. Subj: Isabella Warwick Date: 04/30/2000 12:25:01 PM Pacific Daylight Time From: [email protected] (Colin Warwick) To: [email protected] Dear Marshall, I thought I may have been able to shed some light on your interest in Isabella Warwick but alas I have not come up with much. I have started to compile a database of Warwicks in Dumfries having done the parish of Canonbie and Westerkirk by working through the OPR (on film). Although rather tedious this method sometimes finds data missed by the Mormons for the IGI. I intend to work my way through the parish of Langholm next so have only the following information from the IGI. Walter Warwick and Mary Graham were married in Langholm on 29Jul1832 they had five daughters; Agnes b.9Dec1832, Elizabeth 12Apr1834, Isabella 5May1838, Mary 17Nov1841 and Janet 28Feb1843. The OPR may give an address, usually a farm or village. The first national census 1841 would be interesting but I don't have access to it and would have to visit the Scottish Records Office here in Edinburgh which means taking a day off work. I have looked for Walter's birth record in Canonbie and Westerkirk to no avail, the closest being a distant relative of mine -Walter Warwick born in Glenzierhead, Canonbie on 21 Oct 1790. Where did you get the 1818 birthdates was there a place of birth in this source? I'll certainly keep my eye open for any more information and next time I'm at the SRO I'll have a look at the Census and let you know. Cheers Colin M Warwick FR711FR711 FR711 RESEARCH: Isabella Warwick Author: Marshall Joel Brown Date: 8 Aug 1999 7:09 PM GMT Isabella Warwick was born 5 May 1838 in Langholm, Dumfries, Scotland. She was married to William Brown in Scotland, and they immigrated to the United States in about 1861, to New Haven, Connecticut, where she died. She was buried at Westville Cemetery, New Haven, New Haven, Connecticut. She and William had at least four children: Mary born 21 Sep 1859, Martha born 1866, Walter born about 1869, and William, born 22 Nov 1878. Her son William is my grandfather. I would like to know of anyone who has any connection to this family or who has done any research work and come across this family. Specifically, I need Isabella and William Brown's marriage date and place, and also Isabella's death or burial date. Since she is buried in a well-established cemetery in New Haven, her death date may not be too hard to establish. Anyone who has been to this cemetery, and may be able to help, please do contact me, at 702-564-4453 or email me at [email protected] Thank-you.
