a. Note:   , 1987; Margaret A Mazeau, 1989; Francis Mazeau of Milford CT, 1987;Marjorie Uschold of Rochester, NY, 1989 Family Calendar. NOTE FROM MARJORIE USCOLD: Jean came to the United States from France in 1869. He was a carpenter, architect, builder, and contractor. He became a U.S. citizen on March 14,1887. FROM ENSIGN RICHARD MAZEAU OF FRANCE 12 AUG 1999: Jean Mazeau's birth certificate found. Ensign Richard Mazeau taking time during his vacation, looked for and found our grandfather's birth certificate. The surprising fact that it uncovered is that Jean Mazeau's father's name is Jean not Rene. His mother is Jeanne Seyrat, not Madeleine Seyrille. According to notes in Uncle Alban Mazeau's family file the surname Seyrat without a first name was written after the name Madeleine Seyerille. I made the change to Rene Mazeau and Madeleine Seryrille after receiving a copy of Jean Mazeau's death certificate, which gives those names as the parents of Jean Mazeau. I, perhaps wrongly, assumed that Uncle Camille had given that information at the time of his father's death. We just have a small, interesting question now -- who is Madeleine Seyrille? -- Marjorie Uschold ORIGINAL DOB 07 Oct 1845, from Donald and Francis Mazeau, 1987. (Consequently corrected to 07 Nov 1845). RESIDENCE IN NYC: Said by Camille Symons, quoting "Grandma" as saying that Jean Mazeau had come from France and that he and Irma had rented an upstairs apartment in the area known as "Hell's Kitchen." (13 Feb 2000 In an Instant Message to Marshall Brown). NEW DOB 07 Nov 1845, from Ensign Richard Mazeau of France, on 06 Aug 1999. He located the original birth Certificate of Jean Mazeau in the birth records for Neuvic, France, 1845. He located this record in the public library in Perigueux, France. Many more details can be found in the email Richard sent on 06 Aug 1999,to Marshall J. Brown at [email protected] in Marshall's AOL files and also copied to Marshall's MS Word file named "Jean Mazeau Birth Certificate.doc" dated 06 Aug 1999, 5:50pm. BURIAL PLACE: 13 Feb 2000: Donald Mazeau said on 04 Feb 2000 that both of his Mazeau grandparents were buried in the Mazeau plot of the old Milford Cemetary on Prospect Street or Cherry Street in Milford, Connecticut. For some reason, Marjorie has "Fresh Pond Cemetery, Long Island, New York" (township unnamed) for Jean Mazeau. Diane Grace, present at this 04 Feb 2000 meeting at 560 Huntington Road, was in agreement with him and said that indeed, he was buried in Milford. BURIAL PLACE: 14 feb 2000: Hi Marshall, The one question Grandpa (Donald Mazeau) could answer was that his (Mazeau) grandparents are buried in the Mazeau plot in the older Milford Cemetary on Prospect Street. Camille Symons FROM RICHARD K. MAZEAU 01 DEC 1999: "As to the family plot in Milford, CT, unless Jean was disinterred and reburied long after his death, he’s still resting in a New York cemetery. After he left France, he lived in Brazil for a while, came to the States, worked in Texas, Kansas and Louisiana, and finally settled in New York." Uschold), [email protected] (Marshall Brown) Hello everyone I am delighted to tell you what I found out today at the public library in Perigueux. First of all I started out by searching for ancestors in my branch but that was really difficult because I couldn't easily match the information I had with the records there because everything is put away by city. So as long as you do not know where your ancestors come from, it turns out to be an exhausting research, so I decided to focus on your branch and started with this Jean Mazeau that migrated to the United States in 1869. I asked for Neuvic's birth records of that time and turned to the pages dealing with the year 1845 (Jean Mazeau's birth date). I found it straight away DOB November 7, 1845 but some pieces of information are wrong; i.e according to the official records his parents were called Jean Mazeau and Jeanne Seyrat (maiden name). Sorry, I didn't have time to deepen my research on them, but it also said that they had a son too, called Anne (strange name for a male, it said "male" ) and born July 28, 1847. Please find hereinafter the copy of Jean Mazeau's birth certificate: "L' an mil huit cent quarante cinq, le huit novembre à deux heures du soir. I hope you'll be able to translate it even though that's old French written style. Should you experience difficulties, please do not hesitate to ask me. I'll be delighted to help. I wanted to xerox this certificate there but I was told they could not do that but I was free to make a photo of it using a camera. I did not have any ... but my neighbor took one for me and told me that he would mail it to me, so I should have it in a few days, then I mail it to you so that you can scan it and then display it on the family web site. -Richard Mazeau of France. FRENCH TO ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF JEAN MAZEAU'S BIRTH CERTFICATE: "The year one thousand eight hundred and forty five, November eight at two o'clock in the afternoon. Birth certificate of Jean Mazeau, child of male sex, born yesterday at seven o'clock in the evening, in the village of Théorat, commune of Neuvic, of the herdsman Jean Mazeau, and wife Jeanne Seyrat, residing at the village of Théorat. On the statement with us made by the aforementioned Jean Mazeau, thirty years old, who introduced the child to us. Witnesses being Jean Dessarges, forty years old, a dyer, and Jean Martigue, forty five years old, a weaver, both residing in the borough of Douzillac. Noted, according to the law, by the mayor of the commune of Neuvic, chief town of canton, district of Riberac (Dordogne), civil officer of State, undersigned. After reading and comparing these statements, these witnesses signed this certificate." BURIAL: Jean Mazeau was first cremated at: Fresh Pond Crematory Columbarium, 6140 Mount Olivet Crescent, Middle Village, NY 11379 (718) 821-9700. Later, his ashes were shipped, via UPS to the home of Camille Mazeau and his wife, Jane Agnes Irene Young. Sometime after that, Camille had the ashes buried in the Milford Cemetery in the Mazeau family plot. The dates of the UPS shipment and of the reburial in Milford Cemetery are presently unknown. RESEARCH: Mazeau family line Date: 8 Aug 1999 7:43 PM GMT I am researching the Mazeau family line in America, which include all descendants of Jean Mazeau born 7 Oct 1845 in Neuvic-sur-Lisle, Dordogne, France, and died 15 May 1919 in Manhattan, New York. Jean married Irma Henriette Bansse of France. Jean and Irma had five children all born in New York City: Camille born 1873, Julian born 1884, Palmira born 1888, Alban born 1889, and Marcel Adrian born 1893. I have many more names both descendants and ancestors of these individuals, and want to make contact with anyone who wants to contribute more Mazeau information to what I have, or would like to get Mazeau information from me.
