She was married to Samuel Cooksie in the year 1832. To this union were born seven children, five sons and two daughters. Of those living are Mrs. David Young, William, Mrs. Sarah Young, and G. W. of New Windsor and Timothy of Galesburg. James died at the age of fourteen years. Israel died at the age of nine months. She joined the M.E. church at an early age and after coming to this country she joined the U.B. church and lived a Christian life. Funeral services were held from the Free Mission church on Thursday at 11 a.m., Rev. George Williams officiating and burial was in the New Windsor cemetery. We have been to the brink of the river, The cold river of death And still in the valley we shiver, Where mother yielded up her last breath. Chill, chill was the touch of the billow, As it closed o'er our dear mother's head; Then left her asleep on her pillow, Our beautiful, beautiful dead. Oh! dark was the eve when the token Was sent from the palace on high That the sweet silver cord must be broken, And the pitcher all shattered must lie. Oh! that evening was sad and dreary When our mother had to fight her last foe; At length of the conflict aweary, She conquered and upward did go. And silently still tho we wander 'Mid wrecks that are left by the tide Remembering the tearful surrender, Of the life that with Christ must abide, We hear a soft whisper of pardon, And the promise of wiping all tears, A meeting beyond the dark Jordan, To last through unchangeable years. We expect there to meet our dear mother, For the seeds of life have been sown In these hearts that will cherish her memory And follow the path that she has gone. Oh! how pleasant to tihnk that our mother Is watching our lives from on high And says by her whispering presence "Be faithful, you'll come by and by"
