a. Note:   for many years, until june 2005, family researchers only had a name: it was believed that jacob schindewolf never made it to the united states: the family came in either 1877(son frederick's death cert) or 1868 (us census, son alfred's naturalization file). we noticed he doesn't appear w/family in the 1880 us census, in which mary is listed as head. researchers assumed he was deceased by the census date. when a package arrived at my door from frankershausen, germany in jun 2005, all of our assumptions were confirmed and clarified. jacob schindewolf, carpenter, lived and died in the little town of frankershausen, prussia, and became the progenitor of a handful of americans as of 2004. in various documents, the surname is spelled (whether correctly or not) schindewolfe, schindelwolf(e), schinderwolf(e).
