Note:   louis henry was the eldest surviving son of the henry and sophie burmester family who had problems attempting to emigrate to nyc from germany in 1862, which sent family to toronto, ontario, canada for 3 years. louis lived from 1865 - 1870s (about age 15 -20s) in new york city. he shows with parents in the 1870 nyc census. shortly after, he moved to new london area and met wife mary kopp. they were married 1876 and lived in new london, ct. he was a barber there, and it is reasonable to think he learned the trade in his mother's practice back in nyc. new london, ct business directories list louis burmester of burmester & grancher, location 31 coit st., newlondon, 1888; louis h. burmester, barber, with 2 locations, the first being 18 1/2 state st. (1890) 88 state st. (1891) and 178 state st. (1892); and the second location (possibly his residence) at 23 church st. during the same period. (from ancestry.com) louis died of bright's disease.
