a. Note:   dan h. holton married myrtilla ann davis in 1908 in her hometown of huntington, wv (she was b. in ashland, ky across the river.) in the census, he was b. about 1880 in pa. we surmised he was son of col. forbes holton of lawrence, pa, a union war hero b. in ireland and a pioneer manufacturer of window glass. i soon learned that the elder holton, who had moved the plant from pa to anderson, indiana, before the turn of the century, moved again to huntington, wv in 1902 and made dan h. the plant manager. my father, myrtilla's nephew, stated that dan's prospering investments and his investment advisory business were severely devalued as a result of the depression. this may have been the motivating factor in his apparent gunshot suicide on 27 jun 1938.
