Note: From Chas. Krause biography: Cecilia Augusta Huhn was born October 6, 1894 at 55th and Kimbark in Chicago, Illinois. She was one of five children born to Annie and Henry Huhn. Three years after her mother's death, her father married Rose Luick Garman who operated the telephone business office where their telephone bills were paid. (See Pearl Huhn for related story). After her father's retirement, the family moved to Scottsville, Virginia which is about 50 miles west of Richmond, Virginia. About 1 1/2 years later, Cecilia received permission from her parents to return to Chicago to live with her married sister Pearl and husband David Millar. Cecilia was employed by Goez Lithographic Co. and Spiegel May Sterne. She was then employed as a dental assistant for Dr. J. J. Bing. It is believed that she met her fiancee' at Merry Gardens Ballroom. She was married to Charles August Krause on October 25, 1922 at the home of her brother, Bill Huhn, at 6506 S. Mozart Street. Miss Florence Atkens was bridesmaid and Irving Anderson acted as best man. The marrriage service was read by Rev. Murray of Garfield Blvd. Methodist Episcopal Church. Theri initial residence was at 1537 East 74th Street in Chicago. THree children were born of this marriage. Stories related by Tammy/ Beverly Gray: Cecilia Huhn had a much different impression of her stepmother, Rose Luick Garman, than her older sister Pearl. She was once horrified to find that her stepmother had purchased what she considered a very ugly dress for Cecilia to wear to an important party with all her friends. Cecilia also felt that her stepmother was very strict with her, imposing very early curfews on her as a teenager. However difficult this early relationship may have been, Cecilia kept in close contact with her stepmother throughout her life. She was known to regularly visit Rose in Logansport, Indiana, where she lived at some point after the death of Henry Huhn. Rose lived until 1935, and it is recalled that on Cecilia's final visit to her stepmother before her death, her kids, Charles and Marilyn were misbehaving badly. The circumstances of the death of Lois, the 2nd child of Charles A Krause and Cecilia Huhn have been shrouded in mystery that will probably never now be fully explained. It is described as a "nursing accident" in Chas. Krause's record, and it is alternately described as a situation in which Cecilia accidentally fed the baby a toxic substance. Whatever the full explanation, this incident was never spoken of by Charles or Cecilia; It was only discovered by Marilyn Krause Gray by accident years later, when she was employed in some capacity in a records room and looked up her own last name for kicks. When she confronted her father with what she had found he replied "Let's take a walk", and described what had happened; only fragments of this story exist in the memory of descendents of that generation. Lois was buried in an unmarked grave upon her tragic death in 1927; sometime after their parents' deaths, Charles F Krause and Marilyn Krause Gray placed a marked gravestone at that site. Cecilia was a 50 year memeber of Damascus chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Cecilia died due to congestive heart failure August 12, 1974 and was laid to rest at Cedar Park Cemetary in Calumet Park, Illinois, August 14, 1974. 1900 Census: Living at 10237 Prospect Ave. Chicago, Cook Co. Illinois
