Note: Story related by Jane Keeney Winfrey: One day, Henry Huhn informed his children that he was going to be remarried. This came as a shock, as they did not even know that he had been seeing anybody. Pearl Huhn was very afraid she was about to gain a "wicked stepmother". When she met Rose Luick Garman, she was happily surprised. Mrs Garman was the nice lady at the telephone company office where it was young Pearl's responsibility to take payment for the bill. (Rose probably knew this was her boyfriend's daughter all along however). After Henry and Rose's wedding, the new Mrs Huhn was aghast when she found her new step-daugther was without a party dress. Rose took Pearl shopping for party dresses, which she was sorely in need of, as her father had no concept of why a girl might need a nice dress.
