Note: Marriage Record of 9/1871 lists her as "Catharine Huhn" marrying "Emil Otte" Listed profession as "Wine/Saloon" in 1880 Census Living in Chicago, Cook Co IL wi th sons Henry, Joseph and Hugo. Birthyear listed as 1838 in 1880 Census. Chas Krause records show 1836. 1860 Census shows 1838 also. Listed as being born in Prussia in 1880 Census. This does not generally contradict previous records of birthplace as Frankfurt Am Main, because the city became a Prussian, and in turn a united Germany possession during the course of her life. Profession Listed in 1880 Census would seem to give creedence to Charles Krause's assertion that Karl Jacob Huhn kept a tavern. Lists both her parents as being born in Prussia in 1880 Census. Hugo Otte is listed as being born in Washington D.C. in 1872. This suggests that Catherine returned to D.C. at least for a short time, after Karl Jacob's death. She married Leopold Otte in Chicago, in September of 1871, just 5 months after her 1st husband's death. Did the new family move back to Washington D.C. for a period of time? It would be interesting to ascertain the movements of Catherine and the kids in the 1870-1880 period. 1900 Census: Living at 5201 Ashland Ave, Chicago, IL Listed as "Kate Wandall" living with a "William Wandall" Born Jan 1836. Age 64. States married 18 years. Listed as having 4 children, all of whom are still living (correct) This would match records. Born in Germany, as were parents. Year of immigration listed as 1858 living in this country 42 years. Nothing listed for citizenship status. This causes mucho problems in figuring out the immigration timeline and does not match records. No occupation listed. T623_282 ED 918 Sh 11 L42
