a. Note:   Philipp was a farmer & log cutter. He met his death through a log cutting accident. He was found "laying for 3 hours in ice cold water & was frozen on the fractured left leg to the marrow of the bone through the open wound". He died, after 5 days duration of complications from this accident, leaving 4 small children. He is buried in Darmstadt Memorial Cemetery, Darmstadt, Illinois
 Philipp was born in a one-room log cabin in Darmsatdt three years after his parents immigrated from
 Dietzenbach, Hessen, Germany.
