Note: Joseph Helton Was A Baptist Preacher, On 31 May In 1915 In Breathitt County, Kentucky, While Returning Home From Service's On Horseback, Some Scoundrel In The Cover Of Darkness Shot Him Through The Heart, The Culprit Was Never Apprehended, This Information Was Related To Me By My Grand Mother Elvira Marie Bryant, A True Unsolved Mystery. (Note) I Recently Received A Newspaper Article From The Breathitt County News, Dated 6/4/1915, Sent To Me From A Helton Researcher, It Said, Joseph Was Found Dead On A Monday Morning, That Some One Laid In Wait For Him, Because There Was Food Items In Their Blind, as Though Some One Anticipated A Long Wait, They Arrested A "Lee Hensley" As A Probable Suspect, Because Joseph Was Trying To Get Lee Hensley Indicted For Wronging A Young Girl That Joseph And His Wife Had Taken In To Raise, Her Name Was Lucy Lyne, She Was Living With Joseph And Catherine In The 1900 Census Age 2 Listed As A Bound Child, In The 1910 Census She Was Listed As Lucy Lyne Helton, Daughter, Age 12, As Far As I Know, And According To My Grandmother This Case Was Never Brought To A Conclusion. The Sheriff Figured That The Suspect Thought That If He Killed Joseph, His Possible Indictment Would Go Away, Which Ultimately Proved Correct, I'll Keep Looking For More Information On This Matter.
