Notes
a. Note:   n Waverly, Pike, Ohio, USA. Earl followed in his fathers footsteps in his occupation as a carpenter. Earl was nicknamed Buck. Earl had lost 4 fingers in a sawmill accident. In the 1940's they lived at 107 Hershey Street,Dayton, Ohio with their son, Raymond and his wife Grace. When Raymond died I bought a Marble top side table that belonged to grandma. On my 13th birthday grandpa gave me a 1800's Indian head penny that I still have. He said he would give me the match on my next birthday, but he died before then. The night he died my dad was sitting in the backyard when a bolt of lightening hit. It looked like a cross. Dad said to Mom "Pop just died." 20 minutes later we got the phone call that Grandpa just died. The story is that Grandpa liked to sip from the bottle and when he came home Grandma would make him sleep behind the old wood stove. Now I never did witness this because Grandma died when I was 3 years old, but my source was good. I laugh just to think of him curled up with a stick of wood. I have a picture of him and a buddy and Grandpa was playing a Violin. I heard he played it very good. When he married Etta they moved to Granite City, Illinois. Mom, Dad, Dan and I would go to visit them often. That was so much fun sleeping on the floor of their living room. I have pictures in my scrapbook. Mary Downing Mahan 2/20/2006
Note:   Earl and his spouse, Elizabeth May Young, were raised on the same street during their teen years. No doubt this is how they met. Earl lived at 392 Pike Street and Elizabeth lived at 374 Pike Street i
