Note: e in her home. She kept a super clean home even with 7 little ones running through. Her boiling point was when dog Blackie would mess in the house and brother Dan would get a coal shovel and squash it in the cracks of the wood floor. After dad died she cleaned houses. She would tell us she was cleaning for little old ladies. Most of them were younger than her. Mom kept in good shape till she started getting Macular degeneration when she was 79 years old. With failing eyesight she started to give up..She was always so active and when she could not drive anymore she got so depressed. She never wanted to depend on her kids. The last 3 months of her life she was in Sycamore Nursing Home. When she died Dan,Vickie and I were with her. Carol and Ken arrived from Florida about 5 minutes before she died. When we were little and would help her clean house she would put a stack of records on. We had to clean and keep time with the song. When her song came up it was always a fast one. We did this till she was 86 years old. Only by then it was not records..it was CD's. Mom was so neat that dad always said that he tried not to get up at 3am to go to the bathroom cause the bed would be made when he got back. During a meal you dare not get up or your plate was washed and put away upon your return. My sister, Carol, and I often laugh about the time we were recording songs. Our ice tea glasses kept disappearing. If we turned our backs for a moment Mom would have them washed. We went through dozens of glasses that day. We sure had a lot of fun with Mom and so thankful we had her for 87 years. Mary Downing Mahan 2/20/2006 Obituary Dayton Daily News: Marie E. Downing, age 87, went to be with the Lord, encircled in the arms of her loving family on Saturday, November 30, 2002. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Earl. She is survived by (living names omitted) 4 sons, 3 daughters,(Marilyn died Sept.23, 2004..Her husband,Dick on August 5, 2005 and their son Keith,Sept.26, 2006) . Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Newcomer-Farley Funeral Home.
