a. Continued:   1847 - John A. "Rivere" served as a private in Company A, Third Infantry and rendezvoused in Lewis County at the age of 24 in September 1847. He fought in the war with Mexico. He was discharged at Memphis, TN in July 1848. He filed a pension claim in Hill Co. TX, Pension Number 09232. 1849 - On Nov 14 1849 John Revier married Susan Young in Lauderdale County, Alabama. 1850 - John and Susan are listed on the census for Lewis County, Tennessee, their name is missplelled "Ravan" 1860 - They are found on the census for Maury County, Tennessee. 1870 - The census from Maury Co. Tennessee list John and Susan, both at age 48. They had a home and land valued at $3500. John's occupation was listed as a Tanner. They also had personal property valued at $800. They had two young girls living with them, ages 13 and 11. The girls last name was Collins. They also had living with them J. M. Wilson, age 52, white male and W. Davis, age 10, black male. 1880 - John A. and Susan Riveer were still living in Maury. The census shows John and Susan living next door to their son, William M. Riveer. A Margaret Collins was living with John and Susan. She is listed as a "niece". 1900 - The census for Kaufman Co. TX shows John Alderson living with his son, William. They must have migrated to TX between 1880 and 1900. 1904 - Quote from the Hillsboro Mirror Newspaper: "John A Revier Dead - May 18th 1904" "John A. Revier died Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Helen Blackburn at 410 South Waco Street. He was 81 years, four months, and six days old. His extreme age was the cause of his death. Mr. Revier had lived here many years and was well known and highly esteemed by all the old settlers and many others. He was born in Richmond, VA and lived there awhile, and awhile in Tennessee and the balance of his life in Texas. He was one of the few survivors of the Mexican War. He was also a veteran a Mason and was buried by that faternity at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon." , .
