a. Note:   ation. Marriage(page 214 Holy Trinity (The Royal Naval Church), Gosport and baptism records (p. 149 St. Mary's, Portsea)found on British Isles church records Dec 31 1815. The name "Gosport" means "Place where geese are bought and sold" (Year 1250). On the marriage register, a George Whiting is shown as a witness to the wedding. There is a George Whiting on English church records having been born in Porsea just as George Florance had in the same year -1815: He must have been a close friend. A short biography in family records has John dieing during a typhoon on board the warship "Poictiers" in the Indian Ocean: If the incident occurred, he would have died after 1858. The Poictiers appeared to be lost at sea, because English records have the ship at sea for an unusually long period of time: March 18, 1848 thru Aug 30, 1850.
