Note: d Grace Hannah WARD on 8th August 1900 at St. Bartholomews Anglican Church, Kaiapoi. John was 22 years and Grace 21 years. Grace was a housemaid and was from Geraldine in the South Island. Grace died at the age of 46 years on 2 October 1925. She died of consumption. She left John to rear their three children, Florence, Herbert and Rita. I recall my grandfather as a very serious man. When we used to visit him at 22 Coups Tce in Kaiapoi, he was always well-dressed and stern. He would tell us not to eat his strawberries and to be carefull not to go near the water pump and well in his yard. Grandfather had excellent flower and vegetable gardens. His house always smelt musty. Grandad is buried in the cemetery at the corner of Williams and Vickory Streets in Kaiapoi. In Vickory Street, about half-way along, there is an entranceway to the cemetery. Enter through there and go to the second row of graves from Vickory Street; his is about the 8th along on your right.
Note: John Frederick GRIEBEL was my grandfather. I was about 5 years old when he died. He marrie
