a. Note:   REFN: 83495 Sometime after 1850 (on Wayne County census in 1850) Darby and Lydia le ft VA (WV) and with their family moved on to Vernon County, Missouri. Ve ry little is known of their Missouri stay as just six years later Darby di ed (9 Sept. 1856). Sometime after this and prior to 1860 Lydia moved h er family to Crawford County, Arkansas. She appears on the 1860 Crawfo rd County census. Sometime after 13 July 1850 (on Wayne County, VA census in 1850) Darby a nd Lydia left VA (now WV) and with their family moved to Vernon County, Mi ssouri. Very little is known of their Missouri stay as just six years lat er Darby died (9 Sept. 1856). Sometime after this and prior to 1860 Lyd ia movedher family to Crawford County, Arkansas. She appears on the 18 60 Crawford County census. From Goodspeed's, History of Northwest Arkansas, page 1146: D. K. and Lyd ia E. (Adkins) Elkins, were natives of Virginia. The family moved toVern on County, MO., before 1850, (as actually after 13 July 1850) and D. K. di ed there in 1856. In connection with farming he was a mechanic and cabinet maker, and worked at those trades. Eight of his eleven children are sti ll living: Furibin, of Washington County; J. K., of California; Mrs. Nan cy E. Kimes, of this county; Mrs. Phoebe Kimes, of this county; Mrs. Lucin da Reed, of Barry County, Mo.; Mrs. Louisa A. Kimes, of this county; Leand er and L. W. Elkins, of Livingston, Ill. The grandparents, Jacob and Phoe be Adkins, were of English descent. The former was born in Jamestown Colon y, Va., in 1758, and died in 1862, and the latter was born about 1768. Th ey moved from Jamestown Colony to New River, and lastly to Wayne County, V a., where they engaged in farming. Darby Kelly Elkins was born the 1st of June, 1810 in Virginia, the thirtee nth child of Richard Elkins and Rebecca Nancy Leslie. He married Lydia Ev aline Adkins the 18th of October, 1829 in Cabell County, West Virgini a. Shewas born the 15th of March, 1810 in Cabell County, Virginia the se venth child of Jacob Adkins and Phoebe Bradshaw. Darby supposedly paid taxes in Logan County in 1833. In 1838 he had 1 75 acres in Pole Creek, Cabell County, Virginia. He and Lydia had twel ve children all born in Wayne County, Virginia (later West Virginia): Furi bin born in 1830, Clarissa Ann born in 1831, Evermont born in 1833, Kel ly born in 1835, Jacob Kelsey born in 1837, Nancy Evalyn born in 1838, Luc inda Evelyn born in 1840, Phoebe E. born in 1842, Louisa Adeline born in 1 844, Leander born in 1845, Lewis Wetzel born in 1848, and Charl es D. or L. born in 1849. Darby was connected with farming and worked as a mechanic and cabinet make r. The family moved to Vernon County, Missouri from Wayne County, West V irginia after July 13, 1850. Darby died the 9th of September, 1856 in Ver non County, Missouri. Lydia moved with her family to Crawford County, Ark ansas by 1860 where she is listed on the Crawford County census. She di ed the 20th of February, 1895 in Crawford County, Arkansas and is buri ed in the Kimes Cemetery (also known as Westview Cemetery), in Crawford Co unty, Arkansas. Another report from news letters of Barbara Thompson says that on Page 11 45 of Goodspeed's History of Northwest Arkansas it says that: Darby K. Elkins moved to Vernon Co., MO in 1856 and died the same yea r. He was a mechanic and cabinet maker and eight of his eleven children we re still living (in 1889 or 1890 when Goodspeed printed this): Furib in of Washington Co, Ark. J.K. of Calif. Nancy E. Kimes, Crawford Co., Ark. Phoebe Kimes, Crawford Co., Ark. Lucinda Reed, Barry Co., MO. Louisa A. Kimes, Crawford Co., Ark. Leander and L.W. of Livingston, Ill. According to Barbara Thompson of Sebastopol, California (14 Nov.1981) t he 1833 Logan Co. Tax list shows that Richard, Richard, Jr., Archibald, Ja mes, Robert, Israel, Harvey, Darby K. paid taxes inLogan Co. in 1833 Book 4 Page 196 175 acres 12
