Note: James was born at the home of his grandparents, on the farm in White Salmon, WA The Enterprise, White Salmon, WA, March 21, 2001 JAMES PECK James Maxwell Peck, 72, died in Portland, Ore., on March 14, 2001. He was born June 7, 1928, in White Salmon, to Russell Maxwell and Lula Ruth (Gotchy) Peck. He was raised in White Salmon and attended Columbia High School. He was an outstanding athlete and a particularly excellent baseball player. He also played trumpet in the school band. Mr. Peck joined and spent eight years with the Merchant Marines, which he loved. In November 1948, he married Shirley Ann Harris. Mr. Peck was a long haul truck driver for 40 years, driving for various companies before retiring in 1990. He loved trucking, cooking, dogs and pets, and was a great storyteller. Mr. Peck is survived by son James Peck Jr., Vancouver, daughters Connie Ingersoll and Dianna Peck, both of Milwaukie, Ore., Vickie Tovar and Shirley Peck, both of Portland, Ore.; sisters Jeanne Percy, Tigard. Ore., and Grace Eldred, Bend. Ore.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, who died on March 10, 1965. Funeral services were held at Gardner Chapel in White Salmon on Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at 11 a.m., with interment at White Salmon Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Hopewell Hospice House in memory of Mr. Peck, in care of Gardner Funeral Home who was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Peck was born June 7, 1928, in White Salmon and moved to Portland in about 1946. He served in the merchant marine for eight years, then was a long-haul truck driver until retiring in 1990. In 1948, he married Shirley Ann Harris; she died in 1965. Survivors include his son, James Jr.; daughters, Connie Ingersoll, Dianna Peck, Vickie Tovar and Shirley Peck; sisters, Jeanne Percy and Grace Eldred; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Interment in White Salmon Cemetery. Remembrances to Hopewell House. Pallbearers: James M. Peck Jr., Duane M. Eldred (nephew) Troy Ingersoll (grandson); Nicholas A.
