ALEXANDER -------------------------------------------------------------- Thomas Hart Benton Miller, 87, who had lived in Miller County longer than any other resident at the the time of his death, died at his home northeast of the Mt. Pleasant Friday. (March 31, 1933) He was born on Sept. 7, 1845 on the farm where he spent his entire life, and where he died. His parents were William and Sarah Miller, pioneer citizens of Miller County, and he was the youngest of their large family, the oldest of their children, Pinkney S. Miller, having been the first white child to be born in Miller County. One sister who is 97 years old survives him in Valista, California. 9 years younger than county Mr. Miller was only nine years younger than the county which bore his name and was organized ninety-six years ago, on Feb. 26 1837. In February, the Advertiser in a search for the person who had resided longest in Miller County, listed six old residents, three of whom are now dead. A. G. Nolen, who lived southeast of Eldon, and who was at the time the articles were written , probably second to to Mr. Miller in term of residence, died March 25. He was also 87 years old and had lived in the county almost all of his life. R. B. Snyder, 88, who died at his home in Eldon March 23, was also included in the list of old residents. The oldest man in terms of residence in the county now is probably W. D. Simpson of near Spring Garden. He has lived here all 85 years of his life. Member of Christian Church T. H. B. Miller, known throughout the county as "Uncle Tom," united with the Christian Church of Mt. Pleasant at an early age and was a member at the time of his death. He was married on August 9, 1868 to Jane Tindell, who survives him. Eleven children, six of whom are living, were born to them. The living children are; Mrs. Lillie Stark of El Centro, Calif., Mrs. Pearl Johnston of Arvada, Wyoming, Charles Miller of El Centro, Calif., Mrs. Gertie Adams of Eldon, Mrs. Annie Bandy of Litchfield, Illinois and Ernest Miller of the home. Besides his widow, children, and sister, he is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. The Rev. A. L. Alexander, pastor of the First Christian Church of Eldon, held the funeral services Saturday afternoon at the Mt. Pleasant Church.
