a. Note:   1864 he was stationed around Griffin and Lovejoy Station in GA. He served with Laban "Labe" Ellison, son of Samuel and Jane Odom Ellison. (Jane was sister of Laban Odom) Mrs. Lessie notes that FJ was born 14May1848, making him a 16 year old soldier at the time he wrote these letters. Letter to Sarah Ann Rebecca Oglesby: Camp near Lovejoy Station Nov 8th 1864 Dear Sister, I seat myself this morning to inform you that I am well and hope these fiew lines may reach you and family enjoying the same good health. We get plenty to eat such as it is. We get beef and meal. They come round (with) wagon loads of potato every day and we aint got no money to by them but me and Labe Ellison generly steals as many as we can eat and these old muffy cakes and we always steal one or too of them. I would of wrote to you sooner but it takes me one half of my time to drill and the other time to cook my old Bull Beef. But we have gained a little time as B.R. Odom came up yesterday and fetched up a little bacon and we fride it this morning and it was the best Breakfast we have had since we left home. I must close for I see the wagon now. Me and Labe wants to go and get some potato now and there old muffy cakes. The reason I call them old muffy cakes-they is tuff as whit leather. Elmina will tell you how to direct your letters. I am in a hurry for I am afraid the old feller will sell out before we can get there. I must close by saing I will remain your true Brother untill Death. F.J. Oglesby Information from Henrietta Royal www.rootsweb.com states the J. in F.J. stands for Jasper and that he went by Jasper.
