Notes
a. Note:   Alphonsus Logan was known to family and friends as Funtz. He was a carpenter by trade planning to follow in his father's occupation. He married Julia Morgan, who was born in 1870 in Ireland, on August 24, 1890 in Preston County W.V. Mary Agnes was born in December of 1892. In 1894 Julia gave birth to another child a son named Alphonsus George, Julia apparently died from complications of child birth and the child died a few months later. Alphonsus and his young daughter were living with Herman and Mary Borgman in 1900 in Cumberland. Family rumor was that the family had lived in Kentucky although I have found no proof to back this up. Julia is buried in Cumberland on the family plot at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery. There are also several infants buried there. Alphonsus remarried in 1905. Census records for 1920 show that John Borgman was 17 giving a birth date of 1903. He was working in Berkley Springs, W.V. on a large hotel project. He would travel by train probably on the weekends, staying near his job site during the week. It was on one of these weekends that he was on his way home and he was killed. Newspaper articles state he apparently fell from the train at Greeenspring, his body was found by the tracks. He left behind his daughter Mary and new wife Ella and a son John Borgman. Family rumor was that he Alphonsus was robbed and murdered and his body thrown from the train. Death certificate on microfilm # SR4006 shows his parents as both born in Germany. Cause of death shown on certificate... Found dead at B&O R.R. at Greenspring, W. V. The rumors surrounding his death still remain a mystery.
