a. Note:   William was 77yrs-5 mo.-20 days when he died. He was born in Funkstown on Feb. 12, 1806. He moved to the Big Spring area of Clearspring with his parents. He bought the Kindness Enlarged Farm in 1861 and lived there until his death in 1883. He voted the democratic ticket. He married Sarah Shaffer of Franklin County, Pennsylvania. Sarah died June 2, 1896. Children of William and Sarah were John, who died at the age of 51, Andrew, Samuel who married Louisa Tice and died July of 1904, Thomas, William and Sarah who married Calvin Tice, Abraham and Charles. Andrew the second son of William was educated in subscription schools so it can be assumed the other children were educated in the same way. He rented the Kindness Enlarged Farm from his mother. After she died in 1896 he purchased the farm and in 1898 built a fine new barn. Andrew married Elizabeth Grove daughter of Isaac and Frances Shank Grove. Isaac was a well known farmer in Indian Springs, he was the son of Jacob Grove. William and Sarah reared their children in the Reformed Church. Last Will and Testament of William Grosh dated June 26, 1872 bequeaths his real property to his wife Sarah. In particular he mentioned the farm conveyed to him in Dist, 15 by George Feidt, Trustee. He also mentions a tract of timber land in the same district conveyed to him by George Cook. He directed his Executors to liquidated his personal property and Sarah his wife was to receive one third. His residue real estate was to be sold and the cash from that sale be divided between his lawful children he directs his wife to relinquish all her right of dower in any and all residue real estate . He appointed David Tice, William H. Tice and Allen Nesbit as executors. They filed for probate on August 11 of 1883.
