Notes
a. Note:   The 1840 list Daniel Tice living in Clearspring District, he owns 8 slaves. The 1850 census shows Danuel Tice 39 and Margaretta 35 with three children John 9, Anna 4 and William 1, living in the home was Ephram Wish 34. Daniel is listed as a shoemaker and born in Maryland. The 1860 census for Clearspring District, Washington County, Maryland list Daniel as a farmer with real estate valued at $1200 and his personal estate at $150. His wife is listed as Ellen. John T. is 19, Anne E. is 15, William is 12 and Louisa V. is 10. His age is listed at 82 on his death Feb. 27, 1892. According to cemetery records for Indian Springs District he is buried in the Mt. Carmel Church Cemetery, this would be the same cemetery his wife Ellen is buried in. According to baptism records of St. Mary's for the children Daniels wife was Margaretta. I believe Margaretta may have been a first wife mother to the children born before the marriage to Ellen. I have no proof at this time but it is my belief that our Daniel Tice is descended from Hans Matteis Theis who was born in Ruthweiler, Rhineland Pfalz on December 10 in the year 1670. This family tree reads as follows. HansMatteis Theis b.10 Dec. 1670 in Ruthweiler, Rhineland Pfalz m. Maria Margareth Engel children: Johann Mattheis Theiss b. 18 May 1704 in Birkenfeld, Grunbach, Germany d. 24 Aug. 1748 in Lebanon Twn. Lancaster Co. Joh George Dice b. 1735 David Deiss b. 1735 DANIEL Tice b. 1738 Elizabeth Tice b. 30 Oct. 1739 in Lancaster Co. Pa. Joseph Tice b. 23 Nov. 1747 Henry Tice b. 1729 Lancaster Co. Pa d. Jan 4, 1806 in Washington Co. Md. m. twice 1st Elizabeth Jones children were Jacob, Henry, John, Elizabeth, Catherine, Michael, Peter and Henry. m. 2nd Susannah Jones m. 1785 children were David, Barbara E., Samuel, Polly, Liddia, George and Joseph. DANIEL Tice was born in 1738 and died in Washington Co. Md. he married Catherine who was born about 1752. They had the following children Maria S. Tice, Barbara Tice, Peter Tice and Andrew Tice. It is from one of these sons Henry or Daniel that our Daniel is descended from since they are the only two children of Johann Mattheis Theis that are found to be in Washington Co. prior to 1790 The 1790 census report shows only these Tice families living in Washington county, male 16+ male -16 female Andrew Tice 2 2 1 Peter Tice 2 1 3 Henry Tice 2 4 4 Daniel H. Tice was buried in Mt. Carmel Church Cemetery, his stone was located, although there are spaces no stone was located for his wives. There is a stone for William A.Tice and his wife Mary E. Beard and their children Franklin L., Martha and Mary. Daniel had a son William born abt 1848. The stone shows Wm. born in 1848. A land record found in Liber IN 5 folio 109 in Washington County shows that Daniel purchased 77 acres for a sum of one hundred twenty dollars on September 1, 1846. The land was Indentured and deeded to Daniel Tice by the trustee's of Lancelot Jacques Decs. Lancelot Jacques and John Feidt. The land is called Kindness Enlarger. The deed was recorded May 8. 1851. Daniels' Last Will and Testament found in Liber___ Folio 19 leaves all of his real and personal property to his wife Elenore , he further states that upon her death the property be sold and the proceeds be divided between his 4 children share and share alike and their heirs or assignee's. The will was probated on April 6, 1894.
