Note: James Hale was found in the 1830 US Census in Russell County, Virginia, page 153. Jim Hale first came to Scott County in the mid-1840's. He was a farmer from south of Savannah, Georgia (Chatham County). He was born in Virginia in circa 1802. After living in Scott County for a short period, he moved to Gaston Creek, which is east of Wister, Oklahoma for about three years. He then returned to Scott County and lived there for the remainder of his life. {This information came from an article written by my great uncle, Roy Hale.} Note: apparently, Jim had a wife and family he left behind in Georgia when he went to Arkansas. At some point, they moved to Wister, Oklahoma. Note from John Q. Hale: "Jim was a fiddler and was playing at a dance and a fight broke out and though he was not directly involved, he did manage to get hit on the face, on a mole, which became infected and he died from the infection." Israel Brothers and his wife, Rebecca, came to Scott County, AR in the early 1850's as he secured a land patent in 1855. Apparently, they returned to St. Clair County, AL., probably following the death of Caleb Brothers in 1860, In a deed made and acknowledged in St. Clair County, AL., Israel and Rebecca conveyed this same property to James Hale, who married Mahala James, d/o Claybourne James. - Note from Glenda Brothers research.
