Note: Fact: Olio Postmaster December 20, 1902 and February 26, 1907. Notes from Cindi Barnes 10/29/99: I believe that Homer moved from Silver City, Montgomery County to Olio in Scott County, Arkansas after the death of his first wife Cynthia Johnson. In Silver he was an agent for the government. In Olio he met and married Lucy Mary Hale on December 25, 1901. Their only daughter, Lydia was born there in Olio. Homer was the Olio postmaster, where his service started December 20, 1902 and then again February 26, 1907. They moved to Ft. Smith where Homer sold insurance and was a caller for square dances. Homer G. Bates and his wife Lucy Mary Hale Bates are buried in Oak Cemetery in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Last will and testament of Homer Gliston Bates: At my death, all money in the First National Bank and all of my property shall go to Mrs. H.G. Bates as long as she lives. At the death of Mrs. H.G. Bates, all money and property shall go to my three children. That is, it shall be divided equally among Mrs. C.A. May, Mr. J.C. Bates, and Mrs. T.E. Bardrick. T.E. Bardrick Sr., is to be the administrator. This will made on the 25th day of August 1947.
