Note:   According to my great aunt, Grace Jones, Nancy was a full blood Cherokee Indian. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- In order to be listed on the Final Dawes roll, one had to be living within the borders of Indian Terr/Oklahoma 1896-1907 when this roll was done. Your Nancy would have been about 73 years old if she had lived until 1902, the date used for the ages on the Dawes roll. The Nancy Coleman listed on the Dawes roll is 81 in Sept. of 1902. There is a John Coleman age 71 also listed on her family census card. Your Nancy would have already been deceased in 1902. Women were enrolled under their legal name at the time they signed up. Coleman was entered in 1907 at the age of 81 as a full blooded Cherokee. "Dawes Final Rolls 1907: Page # 1-10765-345 Nancy Coleman, 81, F, Full-blooded, Census# 7440, Cherokee by blood."
