Notes
a. Note:   According to my great aunt, Grace Jones, Nancy was a full blood Cherokee Indian. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- In order to be listed on the Final Dawes roll, one had to be living within the borders of Indian Terr/Oklahoma 1896-1907 when this roll was done. Your Nancy would have been about 73 years old if she had lived until 1902, the date used for the ages on the Dawes roll. The Nancy Coleman listed on the Dawes roll is 81 in Sept. of 1902. There is a John Coleman age 71 also listed on her family census card. Your Nancy would have already been deceased in 1902. Women were enrolled under their legal name at the time they signed up. If they were married, then they will be listed under their married name. - Dusty (Sent to Geneva Gonzales) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Liz Ault sent the following info (not certain this is our Nancy because of the date): I have found Levi on the Dawes Rolls, also Nancy A. Coleman was entered in 1907 at the age of 81 as a full blooded Cherokee. "Dawes Final Rolls 1907: Page # 1-10765-345 Nancy Coleman, 81, F, Full-blooded, Census# 7440, Cherokee by blood."
"Nancy Coleman, 81, F, Full-blooded, Census# 7440, Cherokees by blood. Dawes card #7440 is for a Nancy Gritts that married John Coleman. Nancy is a bit confused about her age; in 1880 she was 50 years old, in 1890 she was 60 years old, but on the 1902 Dawes she claimed 81 years of age and on her 1906 Miller application she stated that she was born in 1817 (in Alabama). Jim Hicks"
  Apparently, not our Nancy.
