Note: hit in the knee during a baseball game and then was diagnosed with cancer. Her leg was amputated above the knee in an effort to save her life, but this ultimately proved futile. ====================================================== I went with Charlene Holland today, April 25, 2000 to meet her Aunt Oneida and Uncle Raymond. Oneida was a girlhood friend of my great aunt, Faye Jones. Faye died at the age of 18 from bone cancer. Oneida related that when Faye was bed fast with in the last stages of her life, she told Oneida when her baby was born she wanted to see her. After Patsy Ann was born they took her to visit Faye, but Faye wouldn't look at her. She died two days later (note - see below as this memory is not exactly in line with the dates I have). ======================================================= It sounds to me from this and other things Oneida said that Faye was a sweet young woman. I know Grandma must have been quite fond of her as she was her only sibling that she kept a picture of framed in the house. I know without question, she loved all her brothers and sisters, but the photo must have meant Faye was special in some way. I recently found a photo I thought to be Faye & Toot as children with their mother Myrtle and Oneida confirmed I was right. Made me very happy to know that I had a photo of them. Thanks Oneida. ======================================================= More: Letter from Charlene's grandmother to her father: Patsy Ann Neighbors was born Oct 30, 1936. Now that letter was dated 11-29-36 and Faye was still alive, but grandma says "Poor Fay is still bad. Dr. said she just had a few more days. She don't look like Fay. It is awful what a shape she is in. They don't live up here now. They have sold their place. Jake bought it. Mrs Jones and Faye lives with Paul." ============================================== Just found today a photo of Faye belonging to my grandma and on the back is written: "Hair blond, eyes blue, dress pink, coat pink, blose white." I don't recognize the handwriting as my grandmother's - and speculate it may be Faye's.
