J.H. SCRIBNER FATALLY HURT IN ACCIDENT
J.H. Scribner, old time resident of Grapevine, was accidentally killed by a car striking him on the Dallas-Northwest Highway Saturday night. He was on his way home from the Odd Fellow's Lodge that had just closed its weekly meeting, when a car driven by R. F. Lipscomb, and owned by Joe C. Lipscomb, accidentally struck him, knocking him to the pavement, another driven by unknown parties is alleged to have passed immediately thereafter and ran over him.
The car driven by R. F. Lipscomb went off the high embankment and turned over on its side, damaging the top and body. It is thought that the slow rate of speed at which it went over the embankment, alone saved it from being a total wreck. R. F. Lipscomb rendered all the assistance that he could to the injured man. He and his companion, Wallace Woodall went with the ambulance to Dr. J.A. Allison's office where first aid treatment was given.
Mr Scribner's head and shoulder were badly crushed and he never regained consciousness but died in about thrity minutes after reaching the doctor's office.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Grapevine Baptist Church, Rev. E.N. Strother officiating, after which, interment was made in the Grapevine Cemetery, under the auspices of the Grapevine I.O.O.F. Lodge, assisted by member of the Bransford lodge.
According to Lewis Wesley Scribner's journal, his parents had 5 children, a male was born dead.
