a. Note:   Lewis Scribner's mother died when Lewis was about six weeks old. He went to live with his mother's sister, Minnie Walker. He lived with her and her husband until he was nine years old, and describes them as the only real parents he ever knew. He even refers to himself in his journal as Lewis Wesley Walker Scribner. In 1909 he went to live with his real father in Texas. In 1911, when he was around 13 years old, he left Texas with a brother, and went to Oklahoma and lived with an Indian Tribe.
