Notes
a. Note:   Henry signed a deed for six acres of land in the Town of Moriah, N. Y. May 15, 1830, the day before his father's death. This proves that Henry was in New York at the age of 23 and disproves the legend that he went to Georgia as a child.. Henry married Mary Ann McMurrain about 1839, their first child was born in 1840. He ran for Deputy Sheriff in 1855 and placed an advertisement in the Organ, a newspaper at Hamilton, Georgia. There is a legend in the Wood family that Henry committed suicide by drowning in the Chattahoochee River. I believe that he drowned in the Flat Shoals Creek, because he owned a water gin on the creek at the time of his death. No place of burial has been found. Inventory and appraisal of his estate was taken July 6, 1864 and a Sale Bill was granted February 14, 1865. He owned land in Union, Cherokee, Gilmer, Forsyth and Harris Counties, also two islands in the Chattahoochee river. All of his estate records can be found in Hamelton, Georgia. James Borders told me that his mother Minnie Estell (Wood) Borders told him that Henry was a school teacher. Minnie was Henry's granddaughter. Reference: Probate Records of Harris County, Georgia.
