Notes
a. Note:   Robert B. Benton and family came to Ouachita County, Arkansas sometime after 1860 and before 1880. They came from Georgia, having moved from South Carolina after 1850. The story was told that the family was on their way to Camden by way of a steamboat. The river was low and the boat had to stop at Monroe, Louisiana they were put off there and they walked the rest of the way. They were on the road for several weeks. When they reached the home of Robert's brother, Michael J. Benton, who came to Arkansas before 1850, they were infested with body lice. Before they could spend the night, they had to change their clothes and get rid of the lice. The first year was a hard one for the family. Mary Ann said that they ate so many pumpkin that she could not stand the sight of them. Robert B. Benton and his wife are buried at Red Hill Cemetery. His marker says that he was born in Muscogee County, Georgia but this has to be a mistake because he is found on the census with his father in North Carolina.
