Notes
a. Note:   In 1840 James M. Stinnett married Rebecca F. Spain daughter of Marmaduke and Elizabeth Spain. There were four children born to this marriage. Rebecca died in 1848 and James went to the gold rush in California. He said in his biography, published in Goodspeed's History of Arkansas, that all he did was spend money. He returned to Tennessee and was married to his second wife Eliza Jane Pickett, April 7, 1850. Before 1860 James and Eliza Jane had removed to Ouachita County, Arkansas, where she had a brother James M. Pickett living. It is my belief that George Washington Pickett, her brother, also came at the same time. James M. Stinnett enlisted in Company H. 1st Crawford's Arkansas Calvery which was orginizes at Camden Dec. 30, 1863. He faught in the battles of Poison Springs, Mount Elba, and Mark's Mill. He held the office of County Judge of Ouachita County, Arkansas 1866 to 1868. He was elected again in 1874 and served that time until 1878. He was elected for the third time in 1888 and served until 1890. James died in 1900 and is buried along side his wife Eliza Jane in the Little Missouri Cemetery, which he helped to establish. His home still stands just west of the Cemetery, on the south side of the road.
