a. Note:   John was a large cotton farmer and slave owner in Sumpter, County, Georgia. His will was probated Oct. 20 1851. His estate records are on file at Americus, Georgia. His home was in Lot no. 159 of the 29th District of Sumpter County, Georgia. This lot was sold Dec. 13, 1855 to Lydia J. Y. Dixon (one of his daughters) for $1,200.00, all of his heirs and their spouses signed the deed. Before coming to Sumpter County he lived consecutively in Bibb, Wilkinson, Washington, Baldwin and Green Counties where he was born in about 1781.
