Note: William C. Lee along with two sisters, Gladice and Honnie, came to Arkansas from Alabama sometime after the Civil War. Gladice and Honnie may have been nick names because they are not listed as sisters of William on the 1850 census. William was a member of Company D. 30th. Alabama Infantry. He was mustered in at Camp Curry near Talladega, Alabama, March 31, 1862. He was captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi, July 4, 1863 and it is believed that he was paroled at Newton, North Carolina, April 19, 1865. He was listed as a Butcher and then as a Teamster. When William came to Arkansas he was working as a Teamster driving oxen for the mills in the area. It has been said that they first lived at Caddo Gap, Arkansas. He brought with him a dismissal from the Cropwell Lodge No. 247 of Cropwell, Alabama, dated Oct. 16, 1872. He was a master Mason in good standing. He along with both wives are buried in Little Missouri Cemetery, Ouachita Co. AR. William was living in Clark Count, Amity Township on June 11, 1880 according to the census. He was listed as a farmer, age 38 born in AL, father born in TN mother in AL. His wife was Martha E. age 37 born in Al, father, AL mother AL. She was listed as being disabled for the last 8 month, Spinal Meningitis. They had the following children; John F. age 14 b. AL; Margaret age 12 b. AL, listed as being disabled last 2 months, Flux; Charlotte age 10 b. AL; Mary age 5 b. AL and Charlie age 2 b. AR.
