a. Note:   The parentage of Francis Benton was found in a deed book in Brunswick Co. NC book J pages 24 & 25. Arthur Benton is selling both 100 acre parcels of land that was sold to Francis and he in 1804. In this deed Arthur refers to Job Benton as the father of both Francis and he. Francis moved from Brunswick Co. NC following his service in the War of 1812. He is found in the 1820 census in Marlboro Co. SC. He is next found on the 1830 census for Jones Co. Ga. He is found last in the 1850 census for Stewart Co. Ga. where he is listed as being 73 years old. He owned 3 slaves according to the History of Stewart Co. Ga. Volume 2, page 290. Some researchers believe that Francis was first married to Susannah Holland January 6, 1810 in Upson County, Georgia. Question; if he was married in Georgia why was the first three sons born in South Carolina? I believe that the first three sons did have a different mother, but have no proof of who she was.
