Note: N86 UNKNOWN RELATIONSHIP A 'Maacha' (Marsha or Martha?) Killian was licensed in Adams Co., MS on Jan. 4, 1823 to marry Jesse G. W. Spires (Adams Co., MS Marriage Book, Vol. 2, page 200). The entry is marked 'no return' indicating the marriage may not have occurred. The marriage bond was witnessed by Jesse G. W. Spires, John Spires and, curiously, Abraham Galtney who married Nancy Killian, a sister to David. It is possible that this 'Maacha' is the same as Mercy (Marsey, Massa or Masey) Curtis who is later noted in the family of Matthew Killian who acted as her guardian. Having been taken in by the Killians, Mercy, etc., may well have been known by the surname Killian. Mercy Curtis eventually married Thomas Hughes, the brother of Nancy Ann and Mary Ann Hughes who married David and Joseph Killian, respectively. Jesse 'Spiars' is a son of John Spiars, bn. 1758, KY and Hester Ford, bn. 1763. Hester Ford is the daughter of Robert Ford and Elizabeth Hood. Jesse's brother, John Spiars, Jr. married Sarah Carter. The Spiars family lived in Franklin County, near Leesdale. Abram Buckles, Nancy Killian Galtney's second husband, also lived near Leesdale on his 'Possum Farm'. Abram Buckles' (Buckholts) daughter, Mary Ann Buckholts, married Henry Ford. Although Henry Ford's parents are unknown, he is, in all probability, related to the Fords of Leesdale. The parentage of 'Maacha' Killian is unproven but it is unlikely that this obscure-named female Killian is either of the other three Killian daughters of David. The succession of the David Killian estate does not identify any other children than the five identified in this document. The additional female aged 10-16 in the 1820 Census may well be the 'Maacha' Killian or Mercy Curtis, born 1800 by later census. No other recordings indicating her presence or her parentage have been found. Jesse G. W. Spires later married Josephena Dunn on October 2, 1829. It is also true that perhaps 'Maacha' is a daughter of George Killian, Jr. or John Killian, Sr., as these are the only Killian families for which we have little information at the present time.
