Ewing, William C., 1845 - 1919, GAR 1861 - 1865 marker !OBIT: Humeston New Era 19 July 1919 Former Iowa Man Died in Nebraska The following obituary of the husband of an old-time resident here was handed as for publication because of the interest it might have for our readers. The article is from The Nebraska Custer County Chief William G. Ewing was born at Vincennes, Ind., November 10, 1845 and died at his home in Climax, Nebr., June 18, 1919, aged 73 years, seven months and 8 days. He was the son of Judge Graham Ewing of Red oak, Ia., and one of a family of ten children/ five boys and five girls. William Ewing and his older brothers were enlisted in the war of the rebellion. Samuel, the oldest is now 87 years of age and resides in Genoa, Neb., John the second brother, was taken prisoner and confined in the famous Libby prison where he died of starvation., the older brother was killed in a railroad accident while returning from the war. Four of the sisters have also passed to the great beyond. The youngest sister, Ellen Wax, lives at union Kansas. Mr. Ewing was united in marriage to Miss Mary Taylor of Humeston, Ia., on July 23, 1908 at Atlantic, Ia. where they made there home until the next spring when thy came to the ranch in Custer county. The couple have had charge of the post office at Climax most of the time since 1909. Deceased was a member of the Presbyterian church a number of years and has lived a consistent Christian life. Besides his wife, he leaves one brother, one sister and a host of friends. The funeral services were held at the home, conducted by Rev. Farrell of Arnold and the music was furnished by the choir of his church.
