Notes
a. Note:   Birth: CtabDDec. 28, 1766 Truro Nova Scotia, Canada Death: CtabDunknown Nova Scotia, Canada Archibald was the son of Capt. Matthew Taylor and Elizabeth Archibald. He was about the 9th of about eleven children. His father had been born in New Hampshire, immigrated to Nova Scotia in the early 1760s, and was one of the earliest settlers of Truro. Archibald married Jennet Blair in 1797. She died in childbirth about two years later, and the baby died not long after. He remarried in 1807 to Mary MacDonald in Pictou. According to the marriage record, she was the daughter of Duncan MacDonald of Pictou. Duncan and Catherine Fraser married in 1788, so Mary must have been quite young at the time of this marriage. Archibald and Mary soon relocated to St. Mary's, as their marriage was recorded there in 1809. Archibald and Mary had three sons and two daughters, born from the years 1809 to 1819. Various records and online sources list the names of three sons and a daughter Elizabeth. The "missing" daughter was Christa Ann, who married Mathew Thompson. It is said that Archibald died suddenly "about" 1837, however he is listed in the October 1838 census, so must have died later than that date. It is presumed that both Archibald and Mary died in St. Mary's, though their death dates and place of burial are unknown. He is listed in the 1838 Census for St. MAry's and now I have found a deed signed by him, on 7 Jan 1846 selling his share of the "backlands" of his father, the late Matthew Taylor, to his brother Matthew. This deed was registered at Truro on 20 Feb 1851 so this tells me that Archibald was alive in 1846. They could have waited until they went to Truro to register the deed or until Archibald died, but for whatever reason, there is a 5 year gap between it's preparation & it's registration. Guess he lived a long life afterall. Archibald Taylor was born in Truro 28th December 1767 of Matthew Taylor and Elizabeth his wife, was married in Truro in 1795 to Jennet Blair, daughter of William Blair of Onslow, who died at the birth of her first child who also died a few hours after. He settled in St. Mary's in 1803 (See Register of Marriages, also Register of Births). Hi - my Taylor ancestor was Matthew Taylor, Esq., b.1690 in Londonderry City. County Londonderry, Ulster, N. Ireland who emigrated to New Hampshire, USA (Londonderry,Rockingham County) and died there in 1770. His son, Matthew Taylor was born there in 1727, and his son Archibald Taylor, took the family to St. Mary's in Nova Scotia, Canada, where he married a second wife, Mary MacDonald in Pictou County, Nova Scotia in 1807. Their son, John William Taylor, was my great grandfather, b. about 1818, and his son John William Taylor, Jr. was my grandfather, b. 1873 in Guysborough County, Nova Scoatia. My present "brick wall" is to find information on the niece of my father, Munson Lindsay Taylor. His sister, Mary Ann Taylor, unmarried, had a daughter, Helen Taylor who was born about 1920 and raised from an early age by a William Russell Terris and his wife in Stellarton, Pictou County, Nova Scotia. Our last information on Helen was from her adoptive father's obituary in the early 1950's, at which time Helen came home to Stellarton, Nova Scotia from St. Louis, MO, USA for his funeral. Any assistance in locating information on Helen would be much appreciated. James McGregor to Mary McDonald, daughter of Duncan McDonald of that place, on the twelfth day of September one thousand eight hundred and seven. Registered the tenth day of May, one thousand eight hundred and nine, By Wentworth Taylor, Settlement Clerk. Post by Heather Taylor Facey on Descendants of Matthew and Janet Taylor Facebook site: Just obtained the latest book on the Cobequid Planters & discovered some interesting facts about Capt. Matthew. 1. When he signed his name he spelled it Tayler; his sons signed it with "or". 2. He sold his farm in Londonderry, NH ( 150 acres) to Robert Willson for 491 pounds also sold 65 acres in Londonderry to James Archibald. 3. was involved in a feud with William Blairconcerning trespass. ( his son Archibald married William Blair's daughter...guess things got settled ) just like the Hatfields & McCoys!
